The opposition is refusing to vote for an amendment to the Citizenship and Entry into Israel Legislation unless the elections are held in Oct 25.


Failure to agree on a date for Knesset elections could delay the entry of Israel into the US visa waiver software. Amid the laws that the coalition govt wants to enact ahead of the Knesset is dissolved is an modification to the Citizenship and Entry into Israel Regulation, which is a prerequisite for the US allowing for Israeli passport holders to be part of its visa waiver application.

But the opposition led by the Likud is refusing to vote in favor of the laws except if the Knesset elections are held on Oct 25, when yeshiva learners are on holiday vacation and will be equipped to aid their get-togethers in the election campaign. The govt coalition would like to keep the elections the pursuing 7 days on November 1.
